Picking on Palin: Sure Way To Go To Hell

sarah-palin

There is no stopping her - or her spoofs (don’t you think Tina Fey was just brilliant last week?!).  From the hockey mom statements, to the numerous gaffs media has accused her of committing, Sarah Palin is everywhere! She has increased the sales of a particular eyeglass design, and her hairstyle is copied by a lot of women. It doesn’t help that stars like Matt Damon, Lindsay Lohan have made their arguments against her - even if it were for or against her, it doesn’t really matter coz it’s still publicity.

As a woman, it would be natural for me to support another woman - but shallow of me to make my choice based on gender. In that line, there is something about Sarah Palin that ticks me off - several in fact.

“There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t support other women,” – Oh really? And so if I don’t support you, I’m going straight to hell! Que horror!! Statements like these only further the divide between men and women. It’s a bad misquote and has angered a lot of women across the country - including the one who actually said it!

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for supporting other women, but the actual quote,“There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t help other women.” is about helping women in a different context – not in the political arena.

wolf

Aerial Hunting – perhaps I don’t know how it is to live in Alaska so I can’t really make an informed opinion about hunting wolves. However I think that killing animals in a way that is inhumane is a no-no for me (and putting a $150 bounty?!). The fact that she supports this is unnerving.

“I’m not gonna give the answers the moderator wants to ask for” – then why the heck did she agree to join the debates in the first place. Although charming, she has this nasty habit of avoiding the question or veering off topic, or worse talking about another topic when she doesn’t know a thing about the topic at hand.

Like Matt Damon I also want to know if she truly believes that men and dinosaurs walked the earth side by side thousands of years ago or to be precise, whether dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago. I respect her belief in her faith and I seriously don’t care on any of the candidates religious beliefs, but I think there are subjects in religion proven otherwise by science.

And of course, the controversial rape kit. I don’t like the fact that women in her state foot the bill for their rape kits. CMON. Seriously. A woman gets raped and gets charged for the purchase of the rape kit? Where’s the compassion here? And here I thought women in politics would be supporting other women. Guess I’m throwing your misquote right back at you.

To be fair, I’m sure she has things in her campaign that would interest me. And perhaps the media has scrutinized her too closely for comfort or has painted a rather ugly picture of her. As proven by the above myth - the rape kit controversy, which I found out today from a reader of my blog - it’s our role to determine what’s true & false about the candidates, before we go out and vote on Nov 4, 2008.

Obama says No to Lilo.

My files (found the original; it's not much be...Lindsay Lohan

I think everyone who’s into hollywood news and well..Lindsay Lohan knows that the LiLo has been spending time blogging away on her myspace account. She has been open about her endorsement of Obama and totally appalled by Palin.

However, in recent news, and I’m sure a lot of people will put malice into this, Obama declined Lilo’s offer to host a series of events to help young voters support Obama. A membed of his campaign was quoted saying, Lilo “is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us.”

What are your thoughts on this “snub”?

and more importantly, will Lilo blog about this? :P

Sarah Palin this, Sarah Palin that.

Tina Fey for PresidentOops, that’s Tina Fey.

I am seriously getting tired of reading news about this lady - I mean, let’s get moving and set aside the hockey-mom, tina-fey-spoof, lipstick-on-a-pig, and get on with the issues!

Serious issues.

One reason I can come up with for the recent media pummeling is because she’s not exactly media’s darling. My My, she’s just about to grant her 2nd interview  to Katie Couric! It’s only a month and a few weeks till elections and she’s getting all prudent with the media. If I were here, I’d go all out and flood every station with media spots, interviews, etc. Just to let everyone know she’s serious about this job she’s taking (if the American people do vote for her), as well as end all the “sexist” jokes, shenanigans they keep talking about.

Your thoughts?

Kicking The Blues

Right now, I can’t think of anything to make me smile. Even sale-shopping isn’t guaranteed to lift my mood. I’m in a rut and I’m having a difficulty getting out of it.

Why so? Well things aren’t going as planned, and normally I like having control over the happenings in my life. However, I have to admit, somethings can’t be done according to my will, and you just have to accept that.

I was looking for a quick fix to my depression (no drugs please), and these were some of the stuff that I found. Maybe somebody who’s feeling a bit down can learn something from it:

1. Sniff a lemon.

2. Hypnosis

3. Clean your room.

4. Listen To Happy Tunes

5. Do An Act of Kindness

and my personal favorite, SCREAM it out. Just release it. So maybe you’ll shock the neighbors with that primal scream but at least you’ve let out that nagging little monster in you that keeps you down.

There, I feel a bit better :)

I Like Politifact

Good friend sent me a link today, because she knows I try to follow politics (should be more active and not apathetic to what’s happening in the country after all…), and this site has pretty much a good coverage of the candidates.

Politifact has a couple of fun features to encourage would-be-voters and political noobs like me to get involved.

PolitiFact is a project of the St. Petersburg Times and Congressional Quarterly to help you find the truth in the presidential campaign. Every day, reporters and researchers from the Times and CQ will analyze the candidates’ speeches, TV ads and interviews and determine whether the claims are accurate

Check out the truth-o-meter. They review statements of the candidates and see if they’re telling the truth or not. On the other hand, the flip-o-meter reviews the flip-flops of the candidates. No statement is spared. So far, a candidate has been inconsistent with the statements he’s been saying, and this has been helping me make a decision for the elections on nov.

Check the site out, you just might like it.

Who’s “Change” Will You Believe In?

Colour of butterTotally unrelated pic

Okay, originally it was Obama’s line but recently McCain has also used the “Change” word to power his campaign (so far it’s working - look who’s leading the polls! what an exciting next few months it will be for the American People).

As far as I know, I am still unaligned and a friend recently asked me, what would make me vote for either candidate. Honestly, I can’t say. At this point in my life (unemployed!), the most important thing for me is to find a job and get out of my rut - so I guess the issue to make me turn to one side is Economy.

Where do these 2 stand? Gotta research. Ciao!

I just had to take this moment to congratulate both Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama (i am so unaligned right now) for a job well done - in the fashion department! Take a look at these 2 stunners in their dresses and pearls.

Cindy McCain is such a classic

Michelle Obama rocks those colors

Those 2 guys should be so proud to have their wives with them during campaigns. I know I would!

Soggy Shoes & Socks No More

As someone whose sweat glands can rival the population of China, my boyfriend is thrilled to know that Science is looking out for him.

How does it work:

The process - dubbed ion-mask by its inventors - works using a chemical based on the element fluorine. In a closed chamber, the chemical is vaporised and attaches, molecule by molecule, to all the fibres in a fabric.

The chemical makes the surface "hydrophobic" or water-repelling, so that instead of water spreading out it forms droplets on the surface.

In non-scientific speak, it means no more soggy socks! or at least, drier socks for everyone. Company Hi-Tec has used this technology to waterproof their shoes and the first ones commercially available were shown in London last week.

Hopefully they’ll be bringing these shoes to the nearest shoe store in the US. The said shoes are also stain resistent and easier to clean.

Yey to all the ladies who’d have to pick up after dirty socks and shoes.

Sarah Palin for VP

Citizens registered as an Independent, Democra... Image via Wikipedia

this elections just keeps getting better and better!

First, the democrats had to choose between 2 really good politicians - Clinton and Obama. Then Clinton endorses Obama. Then Obama gets nominated, a first for the afro-american community, and history is made.

Now, Republican presidential hopeful John McCain chooses Sarah Palin , the governor of Alaska to be his Vice-President (for the other side, it’s Biden).

Interesting elections. Can’t wait for the debates!

Just one of those days.

Four Ways to Scream Your Name album cover Image via Wikipedia

I just want to scream.

Another botched interview. Not known to many, I’ve been trying to look for work - well I do have one now, but if I wanna live past 40, I must transfer (work life balance? what’s that?). So as usual another one of those usual questions like.. why do you think we should hire you, describe yourself etc etc.

Now usually I’m very good at interviews, but this particular interviewer wasn’t very nice to me - he was as difficult as licking your own elbows. No pleasing him! And he had to make a comment about my lack of experience in this department yadda yadda. DUH. How would I have experience in that certain department if I’m not given a chance? Maybe some things in life require experience (like flying a plane) but  you’re trained for that! Grrr. Was I willing to be trained? You bet I was. But he just had to make life a bit more miserable for someone else (after all, misery loves company)

Kinda reminds me of Biden’s statement on Obama

"‘I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.’”

Just a sidenote, who among the candidates is actually ready? Consider this: who’s been president among the 2? So who says they have the experience to lead a country? I mean, really? Just thinking out loud.
